Latin American polymers price see new record low on HDPE, LLDPE and PP

Petrotahlil — Latin American polymer prices saw a record low on Wednesday for some grades of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and polypropylene (PP), since S&P Global Platts started the assessments.

HDPE

Brazil CFR HDPE blowmolding prices were assessed at $770/mt, repeating the same price assessed in December 2019, when it reached its all-time low since S&P Global Platts started covering this market, in 2011. Injection-grade HDPE also reached a new record low, assessed at $750/mt.

On the West Coast of South America, since  Platts started the assessments in 2010, prices for HDPE injection and blowmolding were seen at its historical lowest levels Wednesday: $740/mt and $750/mt, respectively.

Regarding FOT exports from Brazil to the Mercosur, the lowest historical prices were recorded for all HDPE grades. Film-grade HDPE was assessed at $780/mt, injection at $760/mt and blowmolding also at $760/mt. The assessments started in 2015.

LLDPE

On LLDPE, Brazil CFR prices were assessed at $740/mt and reached their lowest level since Platts started covering this market in 2011.

In the WCSA, LLDPE prices were assessed at $750/mt, also the record low for the assessment since Platts started assessing it in 2010.

Regarding FOT exports from Brazil to the Mercosur, the lowest historical prices were recorded for LLDPE at $760/mt. The assessment started in 2015.

Colombian delivered prices were also assessed at the record low for the assessment since it started on 2017, at $930/mt.

Domestic markets of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico saw no low records for LLDPE and HDPE.

PP

On polypropylene, record low values were seen for the assessments for spot homo and co-polymer grades since Platts began assessing them in 2010 for the WCSA and 2011 for Brazil.

In Brazil, PP prices were assessed at a record low Wednesday, following a downtrend observed in the past three weeks. Prices for homopolymer were assessed at $900/mt, while copolymer prices were assessed at $950/mt. This is the lowest price assessed for both PP grades CFR Brazil since Platts started assessing it in 2011.

Along West Coast South America, spot homo polypropylene prices were reported at $850/mt CFR WCSA Wednesday. Offers were talked with a $90/mt premium for co-polymer, assessed at $940/mt. Both assessments were the lowest since Platts started covering it in 2010.
