KFC Canada to serve poutine and chicken bowls in bamboo buckets

Petrotahlil - Fast food restaurant chain KFC Canada has committed to permanently use bamboo buckets to serve all poutine and chicken bowls by the end of this year.

The company is planning to implement the packaging solution to include all its famous buckets by the end of next year.

The shift to bamboo poutine buckets will enable the company to eliminate 55 tonnes of plastic waste annually. The company currently uses paper pulp made buckets.

KFC Canada innovation manager Armando Carrillo said: “KFC has the most iconic packaging in the world. As we looked to find a reliable and eco-friendly solution for our buckets, bamboo emerged as the winner.

“Bamboo is one of the most renewable and fastest growing materials, is naturally anti-bacterial and 100% biodegradable, requires no pesticides, and regenerates itself very quickly when harvested. Bamboo is one of many ways we’re keeping harmful waste out of Canadian landfills.”

KFC Canada president and general manager Nivera Wallani said: “While we are incredibly proud of this achievement, we have more to do and look forward to innovating further to bring additional eco-friendly solutions to our restaurants.”

Last year, the company removed 50 million straws and ten million plastic bags from all its restaurants. It also pledged to remove all non-recoverable and non-reusable plastic packaging by 2025.
