Alpla, Global Chemical to set up Thai recycling plant.

Petrotahlil :Austrian packaging specialist Alpla and Thai-based PTT Global Chemical (GC) are setting up a recycling plant in Map Ta Phut, Rayong province, as part of a long-term partnership agreement between the two companies.

A new joint venture company called Envicco Ltd has been launched to build "Thailand’s first" recycling plant to produce high-quality recycled PET (rPET) and HDPE (rHDPE) resins, said Global Chemical, part of PTT Group, in a 4 Sept statement.

“The new… recycling plant is part of our long-term strategic plan that integrates the circular economy principles into our business and encourages environmental responsibility by reducing the use of single-use plastics, said Supattanapong Punmeechaow, chief executive officer and president of PTT Global Chemical.

The new plant, he added, is “an important milestone” as it will create a comprehensive value chain for plastics in Thailand.

The move further expands Alpla’s PET and HDPE recycling activities, which have gathered pace in recent months.

Currently, Alpla owns and operates two recycling plants in Austria and Poland and has joint ventures in Germany and Mexico. The company has extensive experience and expertise in the manufacture of food-grade recyclates, and the collaboration with GC will extend its footprint to Asia.

“Alpla will support the joint venture’s new integrated plastic recycling plant, which will have the capability to produce quality recycled plastic resins and serve as a model for the country and region,” said Günther Lehner, CEO of Alpla.
