WFS charters newbuild methanol-fuelled tankers.

Petrotahlil - Waterfront Shipping (WFS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canadian methanol producer Methanex, has signed a long-term charter agreement with Japanese shipping firm NYK Line for two newbuild methanol-fuelled chemical tankers.

The two tankers will be built by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard with commissioning scheduled for 2022. NYK Shipmanagement plans to manage the carriers.

The new tankers are designed to be equipped with a dual-fuel engine that can run on methanol or marine fuel. Methanol is compliant with the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) sulphur regulations. IMO's 0.5pc sulphur cap on marine fuels took effect in January.
