Petrotahlil - According to a circular published by the Turkey’s Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on September 3, 2020, the quota for scrap plastic imports was reduced from 80% to 50%.
Within the scope of the circular, companies will only be allowed to import scrap plastic at the rate of maximum 50% of their consumption capacity specified in the capacity reports for the remainder of 2020.
The Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Murat Kurum, shared the following comment on the issue: "The latest arrangement will enable us to meet the raw material needs of our recycling sector from our own resources. Hence, we will prevent high amount of waste imports and create employment opportunities for thousands of our employees in the sector."
